The first annual Cwrs Cymraeg was held in 1977. In 1980, Cymdeithas Madog was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Maryland to oversee the running of the Cwrs. Since 1977, at least one Cwrs Cymraeg has been held each year.

In its long history, Cwrs Cymraeg has been held in many different places in the United States and Canada (and even Wales itself). Here is a list of the many places that Cwrs Cymraeg has visited over the past 34 years:
